Americans with Disabilities - Updates, Mandates, and Trends
Just when you think you know all there is to know about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the laws change. Do you know what the current requirements are? Do you know if your City’s facilities AND services are in compliance? If not, your City is at risk. According to www.adaabuse.com, more than 14,000 accessibility-related lawsuits have been filed in California just in the last few years. Most of these lawsuits are being filed by a few law firms and plaintiffs who have become known as “frequent flyers.” One attorney alone filed over 2,000 lawsuits. 
The City of Lynwood earned first place for the 2011 Gary Martin Risk Management Award. The award was presented to the City Council on December 20, 2011 (pictured). Receiving Individual Contribution awards were: Police Chief Greg Savelli of Hermosa Beach, Police Chief Jim Smith of Monterey Park and Police Chief Robert Castro of Glendora.
